Adjunct Faculty - Physics

The Sciences Department at Saint Joseph's College of Maine invites applications for the position of Adjunct Faculty - Physics for our on-campus science programs.

Teaching responsibilities will include one lecture and two lab sections of Physics in both the fall 2023 (Physics I) and spring 2024 (Physics II) semesters. The teaching load will be 8 contact hours per semester. Our department has also posted a second Adjunct Faculty position in Environmental Issues. Individuals interested in both adjunct positions are encouraged to apply to our One Year Visiting Physical Sciences Instructor or Assistant Professor position, which combines these two adjunct listings into one full time role.

SJC is located on the shore of Sebago Lake, Maine within easy commuting distance of Portland. The department has vibrant programs and newly renovated labs with modern analytical instrumentation. We offer Bachelor of Science degree programs in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science, and marine science within one highly collaborative Sciences department. We strive to create a learning environment where students are simultaneously supported and pushed to meet their potential.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated mastery of undergraduate introductory physics curriculum
  • Related teaching experience
  • Ability to connect with students and prioritize student learning
  • Understanding of learning management systems (preferably Brightspace)

    Key expectations of the position:
  • Develop and execute instructional plans that emphasizes student learning
  • Actively engage with learners in a consistent manner
  • Constructively evaluate learners' assignments and provide timely feedback
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress
  • Employ appropriate instructional strategies in support of learning outcomes
  • Teach courses in person on our Sebago Lake campus
