The Nanoscale Biophysics Laboratory seeks a Senior Lab Technician specializing in recombinant protein expression and purification. The technician will be responsible for pursuing the production of a series of recombinant proteins using E coli and/or in vitro translation assays for several projects in the Wanunu Lab related to single-molecule sequencing, including protein design, plasmid cloning, expression, and purification using FPLC and other affinity-based methods. The technician will interact with researchers in the Wanunu Lab and enjoy state-of-the art laboratory facilities and resources and competitive compensation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Equipment Configuration and Training - The Senior Lab Technician will maintain the AKTA FPLC machine as well as all other equipment in the protein production lab. This includes scheduling maintenance and repair as needed, and ensuring that equipment is in good working order.
Protein production - The Senior Lab Technician will utilize the Protein Production lab and any outside resource as needed to ensure that proteins needed by the Wanunu Lab will be produced and purified in a time-efficient manner. The Senior Lab Technician will regularly report their progress, challenges, and troubleshooting approaches.
Supply Management and Oversight - The Senior Lab Technician will ensure that the protein production laboratory is stocked with supplies and consumables required for carrying out the work needed.
General Researcher Support - As a support professional to a research lab, the Senior Lab Technician will occasionally be asked to train students and/or postdocs on best practice methods for protein production. While it is not the duty of the Senior Lab Technician to directly perform any research, they are expected to be engaged with the research and adapt to immediate research needs by prioritizing certain projects upon consultation with the PI.
Space, Health, and Safety Matters - The Senior Lab Technician will ensure that all protocols and any/all new proteins that require biosafety approvals are registered through the Northeastern University Office of Academic and Research Safety (OARS) and the Environmental Compliance and Occupational Safety office (ECOS).
