Postdoctoral Research Associate - Experimental Particle Physics Group

About the Opportunity

The Experimental Particle Physics group at Northeastern University in Boston has an
immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the Compact
Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN. The position will be based at CERN.
The Northeastern CMS group has leading involvements in the operation and upgrades
of the endcap muon (EMU) system, the electromagnetic calorimeter and new MTD, and
the Level-1 trigger. Current physics analysis efforts of the greater group include
searches for physics beyond the standard model, di-Higgs boson studies, and precision
electroweak and QCD measurements.
The postdoctoral researcher will be under the supervision of Prof. Bonilla Castro. The
successful candidate is expected to contribute to upgrades to the CMS EMU front-end
board testing and commissioning, as well as analysis efforts using ML-based jet
identification techniques to search for hadronic final states of 3rd generation BSM
partners. Proposals for new research directions are welcome, including studies for a
future muon collider.
Prof. Bonilla Castro is strongly committed to outreach, science communications, and
producing marked impact on underrepresented communities in STEM. The successful
candidate will be expected to contribute to ongoing projects, e.g. developing HEP
research capacity in Latin America, or propose new ideas. The candidate will also be
expected to mentor Ph.D. and undergraduate students.
